🏷️ How to Restore Missing Tags in SLS After Content Map Changes — The Smart Way

Have you ever updated the Content Map in your SLS module and suddenly found all your question tags missing?

This issue can be frustrating—especially when your tags were carefully crafted to align with your learning objectives. Fortunately, SLS now provides a smart and efficient way to auto-restore tags using section-level tagging. In this guide, I’ll walk you through the exact steps to fix this using the new feature.

🧭 Why Tags Disappear

Whenever a Content Map is changed, especially after retagging or mapping to a new syllabus version, activity-level tags (e.g., questions, quizzes) may be removed or invalidated.

This causes:

  • Activities to become unsearchable by subject/topic.

  • Loss of metadata used by ACP or analytics.

  • Inconsistencies across the lesson.

✅ The Solution: Use Section Tagging to Auto-Restore Tags

Here’s how to recover the tags without redoing them manually one by one:

🛠️ Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Edit the Section

  • In your module, click Edit.

  • Navigate to the relevant Section.

  • Click Edit Section (three dots > Edit).

2. Assign the Correct Learning Objective

  • Inside the section editor, ensure the correct Learning Objective (LO) is selected from the updated Content Map.

  • For example, if your section is on “Forces & Pressure,” tag it with the relevant Physics LO.

📌 This links the section to a specific content anchor.

3. Copy All Activities

  • In the section view, select all activities (questions, simulations, quizzes).

  • Use the top-left checkbox to select them all.

4. Duplicate an Activity to Regain Tags

  • For any selected activity, click the three-dot menu > Duplicate.

  • The duplicated version will inherit the tags from the section.

🧠 Why this works: Section-level tagging propagates metadata to new activities created under that section.

5. Delete the Original, Rename the New

  • Delete the original untagged activity.

  • Rename the duplicated activity with the correct title (e.g., Q1, Quiz: Energy Transfers, etc.).

6. Repeat for All Activities

  • Duplicate → Delete Original → Rename → Move on.

  • This ensures every activity in the section is tagged correctly and aligned to the new Content Map.

💡 Bonus: Apply to MOE Library Modules

This process is particularly useful for MOE Library modules when refreshing or aligning older resources with the latest content maps. Make sure to:

  • Maintain naming conventions

  • Check the tags via ACP suggestions or Global Search after edits

🏁 Final Thoughts

Thanks to this smart duplication workaround, you don’t need to retag every activity manually. The section-level tagging ensures your module remains clean, searchable, and pedagogically sound—just as intended.

Next time you need to update your Content Map, remember: Duplicate, delete, rename, repeat.
